Assignment 2

The prompt for this assignment was to create a visual pattern using images. I started with photos of a few sunsets that I took, then in photoshop I used a mosaic filter to get the shapes. I brought these images into Processing to create the final collage.

Survival Research Laboratories Presentation

Survival Research Lab (SRL) is a performance art group founded in 1978 by Mark Pauline. The group employs many technologies used in modern warfare, but repurposing them to create theatrical performances. The main theme running throughout the work of SRL is to create a performance in which robots interact with one another, in ritualized ways. SRL performances include political and religious overtones, and attempt to create a scene of anarchy, referencing sci-fi, horror, and apocolyptic films and ideas. The sound of these machines is also a significant part of the performance. Pauline has stated his desire of using practical technology for an impractical means.

This is an early SRL flyer, from 1984.

"The design of the SRL V-1 pulsejet itself was based on dimensions gathered by American teams following WW2. It is an exact replica of the original German design modified to produce low frequency (45hz) acoustic output instead of thrust."
